BigCommerce Alternatives

Let’s discover some of the best BigCommerce alternatives if you realize this tool is not for your business.

  • Magento
  • WooCommerce
  • Shopify
  • Oracle Commerce
  • SAP Commerce Cloud.

Shopify vs. BigCommerce

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that caters to merchants of all sizes, serving nearly a million through 100+ payment gateways. In addition, there are gateway transaction fees, which are waived if the merchant uses Shopify Payments.

The platform has a monthly subscription price ranging from $29 to 299, which gets you a seat in the back row. However, you must buy access to apps priced individually to get features. Spotify warns merchants to keep the app prices in mind before adding dozens or hundreds of them to their accounts.

In the BigCommerce vs. Shopify showdown, Shopify is the clear winner.

BigCommerce vs. Magento

The list of BigCommerce Alternatives continues with Magento. It is one of myriad online selling platforms with a steep learning curve and flimsy customer support. On the other hand, it’s built-in PHP, so plan to google for solutions and workarounds when you get stuck. The biggest user gripe is slow performance due to poor JavaScript optimization.

The upside is that there is an open-source version of Magento for cheeky tinkerers. The Magento Enterprise Edition has a cheeky price tag for everyone else. Does not work on Windows or macOS; Linux only. In the BigCommerce vs. Magento showdown, the former is the clear winner in terms of usability.

BigCommerce vs. WooCommerce

WooCommerce is not a platform; it’s a free, open-source WordPress plugin with premium paid features, such as themes and advanced shipping options. The target audience is small to mid-level businesses with a presence on WordPress and proficiency in using it. There are plugins for WooCommerce, though merchants should vet them before installation to avoid cyber-attacks.

Products are added using an editor like the default WordPress editor. The upside is that there’s no learning curve — those who can post on WordPress can immediately start adding products. The default payment gateway is PayPal, which is already integrated with the plugin. In addition, WooCommerce integrates with QuickBooks for accounting and automatic sales data syncing. Still, it’s far from being the best eCommerce platform.
