Editorial Review: TINCheck Pricing Deep Dive

TINCheck Pricing Overview

TINCheck uses a tiered subscription model that scales based on verification volume. For a full product overview, see our TINCheck review. Unlike many compliance tools that hide pricing behind sales conversations, TINCheck publishes every plan, overage rate, and add-on cost directly on its website. This transparency is notable in the compliance software category, where custom quotes are the norm.

The platform offers three distinct pricing structures. Monthly subscription plans provide a set number of real-time checks per month with overage rates for additional use. Prepaid annual plans offer a lower per-check cost for organizations that want to purchase checks in bulk upfront. And bulk TIN matching is available as a separate add-on for organizations that need to verify large datasets before filing season.

Every new account receives one free real-time check, allowing you to test the full verification workflow – including IRS TIN matching and OFAC screening and watchlist checks – before committing to a paid plan.

Monthly Subscription Plans

TINCheck offers eight monthly tiers, each including a fixed number of real-time verifications per billing cycle. Every check simultaneously screens against the IRS database, the Death Master File, OFAC sanctions lists, and 20+ global watchlists.

PlanMonthly priceChecks includedCost per checkOverage rate
Monthly 25$19.9525$0.80$0.94
Monthly 50$39.9550$0.80$0.92
Monthly 100$69.95100$0.70$0.87
Monthly 250$159.95250$0.64$0.74
Monthly 500$219.95500$0.44$0.51
Monthly 1000$399.951000$0.40$0.46
Monthly 2500$849.952500$0.34$0.40
Monthly 5000$1,299.955000$0.26$0.30

The per-check cost drops from $0.80 at the Monthly 25 tier to $0.26 at the Monthly 5000 tier – a 68% reduction. Overage rates are relatively close to the base per-check cost at each tier. An organization on the Monthly 25 plan that consistently runs 40 checks per month would pay $19.95 plus $14.10 in overages ($0.94 times 15 extra checks) for a total of $34.05 – at which point upgrading to the Monthly 50 plan at $39.95 for 50 checks becomes the better value.

Monthly plans renew automatically and unused checks do not roll over to the next billing period. There is no annual commitment – you can cancel or change plans at any time, though switching between monthly and prepaid plan types requires starting a new plan.

Prepaid Pay-as-You-Go Plans

TINCheck labels these “Pay as you go” plans – you purchase a block of checks upfront, billed in full at the time of purchase, and they remain valid for one year. These are best suited for organizations that need flexibility rather than a recurring monthly commitment.

Prepaid planPriceChecks includedCost per check
Prepaid 50$44.9550$0.90
Prepaid 100$95.95100$0.96
Prepaid 250$229.95250$0.92
Prepaid 500$379.95500$0.76
Prepaid 1000$699.951000$0.70
Prepaid 2500$1,519.952500$0.61
Prepaid 5000$2,149.955000$0.43

The per-check cost on prepaid plans ranges from $0.90 (50 checks) down to $0.43 (5,000 checks). An important nuance: prepaid plans have a higher per-check cost than equivalent monthly tiers at most volume levels. For example, 100 checks costs $95.95 prepaid ($0.96 per check) vs $69.95 per month on the Monthly 100 plan ($0.70 per check).

The trade-off is flexibility – the prepaid block lasts a full year with no recurring commitment. For an organization that only needs 100 checks total per year, the prepaid plan at $95.95 is far cheaper than 12 months of the Monthly 100 plan ($839.40 annually).

Prepaid checks do not carry over beyond the one-year expiration. If you exhaust your prepaid checks before the year ends, you will need to purchase an additional prepaid block or switch to a monthly plan. Past purchases cannot be aggregated retroactively for volume discounts.

Bulk TIN Matching Pricing

Bulk TIN matching is a separate add-on, not included in any monthly or prepaid plan. It is designed for organizations that need to verify large datasets at once – typically before 1099 filing season or during periodic vendor database cleanups.

Records per filePrice per file uploadCost per record
Up to 1,000$185$0.19
1,001 - 5,000$385$0.08 - $0.38
5,001 - 10,000$685$0.07 - $0.14
10,001 - 25,000$1,385$0.06 - $0.14
25,001+CustomContact sales

Bulk matching results are returned within 48 hours. Each file is screened against the IRS TIN/Name database and the same watchlist databases as real-time checks, with two exceptions: USPS address validation and EIN/Name Lookup are only available through real-time checks and are excluded from bulk processing.

For organizations that rely primarily on bulk verification, the total annual cost combines the base plan (required for account access) plus bulk add-on fees for each file upload. A mid-size organization processing 5,000 vendor records once per year would pay $685 for the bulk upload plus their chosen base plan.

Hidden Costs and Add-Ons to Watch For

TINCheck’s published pricing is straightforward, but there are a few cost factors that are easy to overlook during evaluation.

  • Overage charges: Exceeding your monthly plan’s included checks triggers per-check overage rates. On lower tiers, overages are close to the base per-check cost ($0.94 overage on the Monthly 25 plan vs $0.80 base). Monitor your usage and upgrade if you consistently exceed your plan.
  • Bulk matching is separate: Even on the Monthly 5000 plan at $1,299.95 per month, bulk file processing requires an additional per-file fee starting at $185. This is not a hidden cost per se – it is clearly listed – but organizations that need both real-time and bulk capabilities should budget for both.
  • No rollover: Unused checks on monthly plans expire at the end of each billing cycle. Unused prepaid checks expire after one year. There is no mechanism to bank unused checks or receive credit for them.
  • Plan switching friction: You cannot combine monthly and prepaid plans on the same account, and switching between plan types means starting fresh. If your needs fluctuate seasonally, this inflexibility may lead to suboptimal spending during low-volume months.
  • No volume discount aggregation: Past purchases do not count toward volume discounts on future plans. Each plan purchase is independent.

TINCheck Pricing vs Competitors

Direct pricing comparisons in the TIN verification space are difficult because most competitors do not publish their rates. Here is what we found across the most common alternatives.

ProviderStarting priceIRS TIN matchingOFAC screeningBulk matchingAPI access
TINCheck (Sovos)$19.95/moYesYes (30+ lists)Add-on ($185+)REST + SOAP
IRS e-ServicesFreeYesNoOvernight onlyNo
Tax1099Custom quoteYesNoYesYes
AvalaraCustom quotePartial (via suite)NoVia suiteYes
TipaltiCustom quoteYes (in AP suite)LimitedVia suiteYes

TINCheck’s primary advantage is the combination of transparent pricing and verification breadth. The free IRS tool is adequate for low-volume, IRS-only matching but lacks sanctions screening entirely. Tax1099 focuses on 1099 filing with TIN matching as a feature, not a standalone service.

Avalara and Tipalti embed verification into broader tax and payment platforms, which makes them better choices if you need the full suite but potentially less cost-effective if TIN verification is your only need.

For organizations already using Paylocity or similar payroll platforms, check whether your existing tool covers TIN verification before adding a separate subscription. See our Paylocity pricing breakdown for comparison.

Which TINCheck Plan Should You Choose?

The right plan depends on your verification volume, how often you need bulk processing, and whether your usage is steady or seasonal.

For Freelancers and Solopreneurs

If you file fewer than 25 information returns per year and just need to verify a handful of contractor TINs before tax season, the smallest prepaid plan (50 checks for $44.95) is the most economical option. It costs about two months of the Monthly 25 plan and gives you a full year to use the checks.

For Small Businesses (10-50 Vendors)

The Monthly 25 ($19.95/mo) or Monthly 50 ($39.95/mo) plans cover most small business needs. If your verification is concentrated during one period of the year (typically Q4 before 1099 filing), consider a prepaid block instead of paying for monthly access year-round.

The Prepaid 250 plan at $229.95 gives you a full year of access without recurring charges.

For Mid-Market Companies (50-500 Vendors)

The Monthly 250 ($159.95/mo) through Monthly 1000 ($399.95/mo) plans provide the volume and per-check economics that mid-market organizations need.

If you also require bulk processing for annual vendor file cleanups, budget an additional $185+ per file upload on top of your monthly plan.

For Enterprise Organizations (500+ Vendors)

The Monthly 2500 ($849.95/mo) and Monthly 5000 ($1,299.95/mo) tiers offer the lowest per-check rates at $0.26-$0.34. At this scale, API integration becomes essential – manual web checks are not practical for thousands of verifications.

Enterprise organizations should also factor in bulk matching costs if they maintain large vendor databases, and may want to contact Sovos directly for custom pricing on volumes exceeding 5,000 checks per month.

Is TINCheck Pricing Worth It?

The value calculation for TINCheck comes down to penalty avoidance. The IRS penalty for filing an information return with an incorrect TIN is $310 per return for 2024 (and adjusts annually for inflation).

For an organization that files 500 1099s and catches even 10 mismatches through TINCheck verification, the penalty savings ($3,100) far exceed the annual cost of even the most expensive monthly plan ($15,599.40 for Monthly 5000, which would be overkill at that volume).

At the Monthly 25 level, $19.95 per month – less than $240 per year – pays for itself if it prevents a single B-notice. For the bulk matching add-on, $185 to verify up to 1,000 vendor records before filing season is inexpensive insurance against a penalty that could run into tens of thousands of dollars for large filers.

Where TINCheck becomes less cost-effective is for organizations that need both TIN verification and broader tax or payment automation. If you already use a platform like Avalara for tax compliance or Tipalti for vendor payments, adding TINCheck as a separate tool creates redundancy and additional vendor management overhead. In those cases, check whether your existing platform’s TIN matching capability covers your needs before subscribing.

For standalone TIN verification with sanctions screening, TINCheck offers competitive pricing with unusual transparency. The self-service model, published rates, and free first check make it easy to evaluate without a procurement process – which is exactly how most small and mid-market organizations prefer to buy compliance tools.

TINCheck Pricing Frequently Asked Questions

TINCheck monthly plans range from $19.95 per month for 25 real-time verifications to $1,299.95 per month for 5,000 checks. The per-check cost decreases as you move to higher tiers, from $0.80 per check on the Monthly 25 plan to $0.26 per check on the Monthly 5000 plan. All monthly plans include access to the full verification suite – IRS TIN matching, OFAC screening, and 30+ global watchlists.

TINCheck does not offer a traditional free trial period, but every new account receives one free real-time verification. This allows you to test the full workflow – entering a TIN and name, running it against all 30+ databases, and reviewing the detailed results – before committing to a paid plan.

The most cost-effective option depends on your volume and timing. For seasonal use (fewer than 50 checks per year), the Prepaid 50 plan at $44.95 is the cheapest. For steady monthly use, the Monthly 25 plan at $19.95 per month covers 25 checks. For bulk verification of large datasets, the bulk matching add-on at $185 per file (up to 1,000 records) offers the lowest per-record cost at approximately $0.19 per verification.

You can upgrade or downgrade within the same plan type (monthly to monthly, or prepaid to prepaid). However, you cannot combine monthly and prepaid plans on the same account, and switching between plan types requires starting a new plan. Past purchases do not count toward volume discounts on the new plan.

If you exceed your monthly plan\’s included checks, additional verifications are charged at overage rates. Overage rates range from $0.94 per check on the Monthly 25 plan to $0.30 per check on the Monthly 5000 plan. These overage charges are billed automatically. If you consistently exceed your plan, upgrading to a higher tier is usually more cost-effective than paying overages.

No. Unused checks on monthly plans expire at the end of each billing cycle. Unused prepaid checks expire one year from the date of purchase. There is no rollover, credit, or refund mechanism for unused verifications on either plan type.

No. Bulk TIN matching is a separate paid add-on, not included in any monthly or prepaid plan. Bulk pricing starts at $185 per file upload for up to 1,000 records. You must have an active TINCheck account (monthly or prepaid) to access the bulk matching feature.

The IRS TIN matching program is free but limited to 25 interactive checks per session, processes bulk requests overnight instead of in real time, and only verifies against the IRS database – no OFAC screening, no Death Master File check, and no global watchlists. TINCheck starts at $19.95 per month (Monthly 25 plan) and returns results in seconds with 30+ database coverage. For organizations that need speed, volume, or sanctions compliance, TINCheck\’s paid service provides capabilities the free tool cannot match.

TINCheck does not advertise standard discounts for nonprofits or educational institutions on its website. However, for high-volume or enterprise needs, Sovos offers custom pricing on request. Organizations in education or nonprofit sectors should contact TINCheck directly to discuss volume-based pricing options.

As of April 2026, TINCheck\’s pricing structure has remained consistent with the tiered model described above. Sovos does not publish a pricing change history, so we recommend verifying current rates on the official TINCheck pricing page before purchasing, especially if you are reading this review several months after publication.
