Auvik Network Monitoring

Let me put that in simple words if you’re wondering what Auvik is. Above all, it is a cloud-based network monitoring management software that provides IT professionals with helpful network insights in under 30 minutes. This software offers network discovery, inventory, and IT asset management. In addition, it provides its users with network troubleshooting techniques and uncomplicated network performance reports.

This software is mainly designed to deal with Macintosh platforms. However, it can also be used as an MSP (Managed Service Provider) billing software. Designed to deploy in minutes, Auvik will help resolve problems faster than ever with real-time network mapping. Moreover, it also provides remote monitoring and management (RMM) focused on network infrastructures, such as switches, routers, firewalls, and Wi-Fi controllers.

About Auvik

We believe that network management should be an easy and manageable task. And Auvik makes it possible. It is designed to automate network management and make IT professionals’ lives easier. The key benefits of using Auvik network monitoring software are:

  • Real-time network mapping & inventory: Quickly find out and audit new networks. Then, live inside the loop—you’ll always realize exactly what’s where while your users & gadgets move.
  • Automated config backup & repair on network gadgets: Mitigate network hazards with no manual effort.
  • Deep insights into network traffic & flows: Quickly solve network bottlenecks and spot potential security vulnerabilities.

  • Complete visibility & effective troubleshooting features: Empower team participants at all levels to solve troubles hours faster.
  • Easy to install: Deploy a collector in minutes. No new hardware, no complex configuration.

What is Auvik used for?

Auvik application offers enormous benefits to its customers. It helps in resolving problems faster than ever with the following:

  • Network performance monitoring is complete with deep network traffic insights.
  • Mapping of network topology in real-time.
  • Asset inventory and documentation are updated in real-time.
  • Automated management of network configuration, including backups and restore.
  • Powerful troubleshooting features.

How does Auvik work?

Once the Auvik collector is efficaciously set up in your network, it mechanically searches on its nearby subnet to discover different networks. First, when new networks are found, users can choose whether or not to have Auvik test them. Secondly, after they approve scanning, Auvik uses a device known as Nmap to perceive energetic hosts on the network. After that, the system looks for open ports to help identify many traits of the host, including make and model.

During the network scan, Auvik looks for network devices that expose the following information:

  • ARP tables
  • Forwarding tables (Layer 2)
  • IP assignments
  • VLAN associations
  • Layer 1 discovery protocols, such as Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), and Foundry Discovery Protocol (FDP)

All in all, Auvik discovers all the network topology and device information.

Integrating Auvik with Freshdesk

People can configure the integration between Freshdesk and Auvik for one-way communication. First, one-way communication goes from Auvik to Freshdesk. Then, Auvik creates a Freshdesk carrier ticket for any unique alert within Auvik. When the alert closes or is dismissed, the update flows back to Freshdesk to complete the associated service ticket.

So, the steps that need to follow are below:

  • Firstly, from the dashboard, click Integrations in the side navigation bar.
  • Secondly, hover over the Add Integration button, and choose Freshdesk.
  • Further, fill in the details for the new integration.
  • Finally, copy the call-back URL by clicking the Copy button.

Once you’ve copied the call-back URL, please don’t close this window, as you’ll need it again later to complete the setup within Auvik. If you close the window before setup is complete, you’ll need to go back and update the call-back URL previously copied and entered for the Automations rule in Freshdesk.

Auvik Review Conclusions

To conclude, we found Auvik a terrific tool for mapping your networks. It’s lovely to get an overall view of your networked gadgets and how they all connect. And it’s terrific for troubleshooting outages and connection issues because you can see the whole thing consisting of the actual transfer ports being used.

But our absolute favorite part of Auvik is the invention portion. It allows customers to back up the network devices, which we believe is a great feature. Moreover, it makes onboarding new customers easier for less experienced engineers as it does an excellent job of finding devices and directing them to put in credentials to manage.

In summary, it makes the entire network more “visible” with the diagram it draws and the constant discovery of network devices. I love the automatic configuration backups of switches/routers and the versioning. Likewise, I also love the visual of figuring out which port something is plugged into quickly. As a result, it takes that burden off more experienced staff.
