Table of Contents
MalwareBuster has a tough fight on its hands. The antivirus software is competing against industry giants that have been offering system protection for decades. In many cases, MalwareBuster does an excellent job at malware removal and broader security. However, in our Malware Buster review, we found that, ultimately, the platform falls short and cannot match its more illustrious rivals.
Malware Buster is not a big name like Norton Antivirus, Avast, Sophos, Kaspersky, or Microsoft Defender. So, can this relatively small player in the malware removal market match up to its famous rivals? After reviewing MalwareBuster and comparing it to other antivirus software, we think it does a solid job in the category. Still, other platforms deliver a better overall level of protection.
Malwarebuster – Remove Malware & Virus
Are you looking to protect your PC from the host of cyber threats that are out in the wild? Antivirus software is constantly battling to keep up with cybercriminals and thwart their attacks.
However, MalwareBuster has been competing against services providing antivirus software for decades. We are talking about tech giants like Kaspersky, AVG, Norton, and more. Like those apps, Malware Buster scans your PC and runs in real-time to protect against malware attacks. When a threat is found, the app allows you to take action to keep your PC clean from infection.
The big question is, does MalwareBuster do these things better than the big names of the cybersecurity market? In the following MalwareBuster review, we will tell you all there is to know about the software and how it stacks up to its rivals.
What is the best definition of malware?
All organizations spend a large percentage of their budget trying to prevent malware. However, what exactly is malware, and how does it affect businesses and individuals worldwide?
Malware stands for “malicious software” and is essentially any piece of software created to infiltrate systems and steal data without permission. It is built and distributed by cyber criminals (“hackers”) who want to destroy networks, hold organizations to ransom, and steal important information. It is any software that is harmful to a computer or system.
Common types of malware software include Trojans, ransomware, phishing campaigns, adware, spyware, remote execution attacks, zero-day exploits, and viruses. By leveraging these techniques, threat actors can take important data or threaten the functionality of an organization. As a result, business owners spend a lot of time, money, and resources trying to prevent cyberattacks.
Details of MalwareBuster Features
MalwareBuster covers most of the traits you would expect from any antivirus software, allowing you to move free malware and maintain security on a PC. However, while some rivals are well suited to business security, many enterprise-grade tools are missing from MalwareBuster. As a result, we think it is a platform better suited to individual users or small businesses.
Below are the features that are at the core of the Malware Buster experience:
-
Malware Removal
As it says on the box, this platform helps you remove malware from a PC or system. It uses cutting-edge scanning technology to check every file on a system, root out infections, remove them, and provide information on the threat, level of danger, and recommended following actions.
-
Ransomware Removal
When a threat actor takes over a system and demands a ransom to unlock it, the software they use is ransomware. It is one of the biggest modern threats, and MalwareBuster goes after promises to stop ransomware before it becomes an issue on your system. The platform also adds encryption to your system and locks even the user out of files if ransomware is found.
-
Privacy Protection
One of the hottest topics in the tech world is privacy, with organizations and individuals demanding services that protect their information. MalwareBuster can help secure your essential data by finding and removing spyware attacks. This means your documents and other files remain safe.
-
Constant Security
MalwareBuster constantly runs, including Automatic Cloud Definitions that access malware libraries in real-time to ensure your system is safe from new types of threats. Malware libraries include updates from security companies, hackers, individuals, and other sources.
MalwareBuster does not move too far from the familiar UI most people expect from antivirus software. Instead, you get a small window with a dashboard of available features down the left and a main window on the right that shows details (for example, a scan in the process). The first window is the Control Panel, where you can see recent scans, possible threats, and actions.
For most users, scanning your system files and real-time protection will be the core function of MalwareBuster. All scans are automated, although you can also manually initiate them. There are three scan options: Standard, Rapid, and Custom. How much time a scan takes depends on which option you choose and how many files the software needs to check (i.e., how large your system is).
Gone are the days when an antivirus scan would bring your PC to a grinding halt. When I ran a full system scan with MalwareBuster, I carried on with multi-tab browsing, work, and some music playback with no noticeable dip in performance. In addition, MalwareBuster provides some of the smoothest in-scan performance we have tested, making it ideal for older systems or underpowered hardware users.
-
History Tab
On the History tab, you can see a list of software MalwareBuster deems to be a threat. As always, with antivirus software, false positives are going to happen. However, developers of antivirus tools are working hard to reduce the number of false red flags, and again MalwareBuster does a solid job.
Whether you have a threat or not, the History section allows you to take action on a listed software, such as deleting or placing it in quarantine. It is worth remembering that MalwareBuster scans for all types of threats, such as ransomware, spyware, adware, and more. Therefore, the tool will show all relevant items in the History tab.
MalwareBuster Pricing Detailed
MalwareBuster antivirus software is a smaller brand in a very competitive market. However, there is no shortage of malware removal tools, including from giants like Avast, AVG, Norton, and Kaspersky. Thus, a small provider that can stand out from the crowd will undercut more established rivals on cost.
MalwareBuster Pricing Plans
Sadly, MalwareBuster doesn’t do that. Let’s be clear, it is competitively priced at $34.99 for a full license, but it is not drastically more affordable than its rivals. It falls more or less right in the middle of the market, with some options cheaper and others more expensive. In addition, while Malware Buster is good antivirus software, it is not as fully featured as its rivals, so that a lower cost would be helpful. Still, the price is reasonable if unspectacular.
It is also worth noting there is a free trial version of MalwareBuster, where the MalwareBuster pricing model becomes frustrating. So we will start by looking at the free trial version, which is welcome even if it is unclear about what it is.
For some reason, MalwareBuster does not clarify how long the free trial version lasts. However, after installing the program, we discovered the Free Trial lasts for 15 days. Another aspect of the free trial MalwareBuster does not clarify is how it compares to the full-paid version.
There is no side-by-side comparison to see which extra features you get when upgrading to a paid license. We know that no customer support is included in the free trial, which is disappointing. It would be nice if MalwareBuster allowed users to see what they get. Instead, you must click the “Free Trial” button, and the program .exe file becomes available instantly.
It is important to remember that most other antivirus software programs also offer free versions. Unfortunately, these alternatives free options are much more potent than MalwareBuster’s free trial in most cases.
MalwareBuster Review Conclusion
MalwareBuster operates in one of the most competitive markets in the enterprise world. Sadly, it fails to match many of its bigger rivals and cannot compensate for its problems by excelling in other areas. That said, it does an excellent job at detecting and dealing with malware, while this antivirus software is straightforward.
