1Password Alternatives
We recommend 1Password for its superior apps and the more visible and actionable security suggestions from its competitors. The only thing missing in this tool is that it is not a free password manager. Thus, let’s see some of the 1Password alternatives and see if you can find a free one that will match your needs.
- LastPass
- Dashlane
- NordPass
- KeePass
- Bitwarden
A password manager is a great tool, especially in a company, if you want to store and keep all your password safe. And because this need is growing every day, many products are on the market, but it’s hard to know which is best for your business model or personal needs. 1Password is a great product for personal and business use, yet it doesn’t have a free version which can be a con for some people. So, let’s see two other great tools like this one and if these are better than 1Password.
1Password vs. LastPass
If you are not willing to pay for the password manager, LastPass is a good alternative to 1Password to explore. Still, most of its standout free features, like password syncing between devices and its security dashboard, have been relegated to the premium plan.
LastPass and 1Password support two-factor authentication via authenticator apps (which use time-based one-time passwords, or TOTPs) and physical security keys. Neither sends 2FA codes via text message; trust us, that’s good. In addition, LastPass has a leg up with its free tier, which is an added advantage to its users.
1Password vs. Dashlane
Dashlane is one of our most popular password managers out of the many we’ve tried. Thus, it qualifies as one of the 1Password alternatives. So it’s only fair to see how 1Password fares against one of the best in the industry. Dashlane has more unique features, like an automatic password changer, a free VPN, and an identity dashboard. 1Password’s unique features are the Watchtower and account sharing (families plan only), but we feel their basic features are more robust. However, when it comes to security, 1Password takes it further with its device-specific secret key. It’s a great way to stop people from hacking into our vaults and inspires confidence in the system.
