Confluence Alternatives

Confluence has its fair share of alternatives offering more or less the same services. Below we’ll get more details about relevant competitors for the Atlassian Confluence software. We will look at pricing points, freemium, features, integration possibilities, and many more to get the best outlook. Read on to choose the best cooperation software for you.

Top Confluence Alternatives

  • SharePoint
  • Notion
  • EverNote
  • ArchBee
  • eXo platform

Confluence vs. SharePoint

Atlassian vs. Microsoft is more like it. Both of these tools offer the same thing, communication and collaboration tool for team members.

Let’s see the difference between the two in terms of pricing, features, and recommendations. But, above all, let’s see – Why is Confluence better than SharePoint? – and more importantly, is it?

At first glance, both SharePoint and Confluence offer some essential features that can be pretty basic nowadays. For example, some of these features are a cloud version that can be easily accessible from any device in any location connected to the internet. Moreover, both Confluence and SharePoint also have APIs, tutorials, intuitive interface UX/UI, document management, customer support, and live editing.

Differences in features Confluence vs. SharePoint

Moving on to the uglier side of things. SharePoint as a Microsoft product can be intuitive to any user who had previously interacted with their products and who didn’t… For this reason alone, Confluence loses some points in front of SharePoint. But, again, one does not deem one product better than the other because one is an older, internationally known company that is essentially used on any computer.

As a younger company, Confluence managed to bring to the table more in terms of integration through their Atlassian Marketplace, where you can find an integration literally with Confluence for any tool you’d like. Simultaneously, as a Microsoft product, SharePoint integrates mostly with products under the same backing.

Funny enough, at this point, these two came to the point where you can integrate SharePoint into Confluence and the other way around. So now, we find ourselves wondering, can we frankly discuss the competition between the two, or did they decide to bury the hatchet and join forces for a better user experience?!

From a pricing standpoint, the SharePoint vs. Confluence situation is as follows.

First, Confluence Cloud offers a freemium plan for teams of ten people or less, while Sharepoint doesn’t. Second, the other price points are equally good and costly, with standard packages costing $5/user/month for both Premium full features packages $10/user/month. Last, for the $5 package, SharePoint offers a better storage option, while both provide unlimited storage for the Premium.

Why is Confluence better than SharePoint?

A short answer would be the integration options it has and flexibility. Moreover, Confluence is a friendlier option for small businesses under ten employees as it also offers a Freemium version.

In conclusion, to the question, would we choose one or the other? We answer that it depends on your business’s preferences and size.

Confluence vs. Notion

Even if Notion and Confluence fall under the same category as collaboration software, the two differ in terms of the target market and features. Notion comes with a more prominent orientation towards the personal user.

Differences in features Confluence vs. Notion

They focus their free plan mainly on personal use, while Confluence built their free service around smaller companies, probably hoping to grow and switch to a paid plan. Looking even more deeply into the Confluence competitor, Notion is quicker thought and lightweight to-do list tool than an advanced collaboration tool such as Confluence. Furthermore, other apparent differences between the two come from the large diversity of app integrations that Confluence contrasts with Notion. Amongst other features that are missing in Notion are:

  • The ability to collaborate with specific team members, such as developers
  • Advanced search
  • Free admin tools
  • Announcements and blogs

Finally, Notion has a slightly higher team price option of $8/user/ month. In contrast, it offers a 50% cheaper Pro Personal version for $4/month, emphasizing once again their focus on personal use.

Why is Confluence better than Notion?

We wouldn’t necessarily say that Confluence is better than Notion. Instead, we would say they target different segments and that each one is better at what they do. Meaning that Notion, as previously pointed focuses on Personal use and individuals that seek performance in that area. At the same time, Confluence invests most of its time in innovating features and integration suitable for companies. Other than that, it can sometimes be difficult to find information on the Notion functionalities. Confluence, on the other hand, developed a wide range of valuable materials over time.

To wrap up, while we appreciate Notion for its feature and innovation, we recommend freelancers and Confluence to any other organization that uses multiple software products and struggles with bringing its teams together.

Confluence vs. eXo platform

The eXo platform is a digital collaboration platform competitor to Confluence. They provide a slightly different software to Confluence by incorporating gamification, social media, collaboration, and reward features in the platform and creating a truly fantastic experience for the teams working with it.

Moreover, the eXo platform is highly praised for its flexibility, variety of features, and slightly lower price. Nonetheless, as a Confluence competitor, while it poses some threats to the software, it remains the champion in the integration and feature categories.

We like the incorporated features eXo has, but it makes us think of Asana, Trello, and other collaboration tools with which it shares many common features. Finally, the eXo platform does not come with a freemium version. Also, it requires a platform to layer on top, such as Microsoft Office 365 or Google Suite.

In brief, while we like and are very enthusiastic about the feature and the breath of fresh air the eXo platform brings to the market, we would much rather recommend Confluence as a knowledge-sharing tool.

Still, at the end of the day is a matter of perspective and organizational and personal needs to look at and base your decision on.
